Way of the Wharves CIO (WOTW)
Leading the Bideford & River Torridge Heritage Harbour project.
This volunteer community group started to research the history of East-the-Water in 2016 and subsequently installed an interpretation panel on the west quay wall, launched a comprehensive website and published the free self-guided ‘Walk the Wharves’ heritage map. In 2021 WOTW adopted the phone box in Torrington Street and published the book ‘A History of East-the-Water, Bideford’.
In January 2024 the Maritime Heritage Trust recognised Bideford & River Torridge as a Heritage Harbour. The River Torridge Heritage Group, made up of partner heritage organisations along the river and representing some 2000 members, supported this and ongoing heritage harbour projects.
